Due to the inaccessibility of both the steep slopes and high summits of the Tepui Mountains, much of the natural habitat is intact. However, there have been many anthropogenic changes and human impact has recently increased in the region. Human-induced fires at the base of the mountains have destroyed vegetation in extensive areas. Fires can reach the forest and rock outcrops on the slopes or even the summits. After fires, heavy rains may remove the soil substratum on soil islands on rocks and in crevices and ledges, preventing recolonization of the native flora. Many Bromeliaceae appear to be sensitive to fires ( Benzing 2000, Versieux and Wendt 2007). The recovery of Tepuis vegetation after disturbance is very slow, probably because of the poor soils.

There are no known conservation measures specifically for this species, however the species is known to occur within a protected area as it was collected in the Canaima National Park, which is the largest National Park in Venezuela. Additionally all tepuis over 800 m above sea-level are now protected as natural monuments. The species was been listed on the 1997 IUCN Red List of threatened plants (Walter and Gillett 1998) where it was rated as Indeterminate (which are the taxa that are known to be Endangered, Vulnerable or Rare but where there is not enough information to say which of the three category is appropriate). Samples of seed of the taxon should be collected and stored as an ex situ conservation measure.
