There are no known significant past, ongoing or future threats to this species, although there are probably some localised threats, including collection from the wild.

The species is protected by the Biodiversity Act in Bulgaria, where it is considered Critically Endangered [CR B1ab(ii)+2ab(ii)] and under the decision no. 239/86 of the Institute for Nature Protection in Kosovo. It occurs in a number of protected areas, including the Belasitsa Nature Park and a Natura 2000 site in Bulgaria, in the Bjeshke e Nemuna National Park, Kosovo and in the Natura 2000 site GR1410002 Agrafa in Greece, and probably numerous other protected areas within its range. There are no other conservation measures needed. MEA (2013) assessed the species as Endangered (A1b) for Albania.
