This species is locally impacted by agricultural developments, invasive species and drought. Mt. Elgon at this altitude is in a national park; the Rumuruti streams where the species was collected are potentially threatened by agriculture. The type locality (Kariandusi) is currently impacted by mining for diatomite and heavy settlements impacts water streams.
