This species can form dense colonies, small groups or occur as scattered individuals. There are large populations on the Coburg Peninsula and Melville Island which are subject to regular fires (Dowe 2010).

There are no known direct threats to this species. However, an increase in the frequency and intensity of fires and changes in land use are threats to this species ecualypt woodland habitat (Department of the Environment and Energy 2017).
