Using Global Forest Watch (2019), high rates of deforestation can be observed around Timika, and to a lesser extent around Kikori. Whilst there is still extensive intact habitat across this species range, the known collection sites are all within logging or mining concessions. Deforestation in New Guinea is mainly driven by subsistence agriculture and commercial logging, as well as commercial plantations and mining (McAlpine and Freyne 2003).
