It is uncertain if this species was found in a nature reservation (1921) which is still protected.
On the other hand forests outside of protected areas are under threat in Sumatra (WWF 2019). In fact, the recent observations of this plant have been done in forest that are not protected, most areas are declining in extent and quality through agriculture, population pressures and severe deforestation (Nurainas pers. comm. 2020).

It has not been recorded by BGCI (2019) to be grown ex situ. The species was recorded from a nature reservation in Sibolangit (Valeton 1921). Which protected area this refers to is unknown. It is also not certain that this location is still protected.
