Lillo and colleagues (2019) confirmed 50 mature individuals from Dinagat Island. However no other information is available on the overall population size. It is suspected that population of the species in decline due to threats of urbanization, commodity-based deforestation, shifting agriculture, and mining activities. The uncertainty in its population size, however, can be addressed by further inventories and documentation.

Heterospathe philippinensis is presently known to be cultivated in the nurseries of Makiling Botanical Gardens (MBG) in Los Banos, Laguna for future planting (Fernando 2009). The species can also be found in various protected areas (PAs) in the country such as in Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park (part of Palanan, Isabela), in Aurora Memorial National Park, Bulusan Volcano Natural park, and in four other PAs which aid in the conservation of its remaining individuals as these areas are supported by their respective implementing legislations under the National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 1992 against excessive and unauthorized degradations and utilization. Additionally, the species occurs in some Philippine Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) which are sites of top priority conservation effort in the country. It is found in Mt. Dingalan, Apayao lowland forest, Mt. Kampalili-Puting Bato, and in five other KBAs, these offer significant contribution on the conservation of the population.
