Heterospathe parviflora

From 2001 to 2019, the extent of occurrence (EOO) for this species lost 35.5 kha of tree cover, equivalent to a 16% decrease in tree cover since 2000. As of 2010, 60% of the area was tree cover (Global Forest Watch 2021). The forests of New Britain have been rapidly destroyed in recent years, largely to clear land for oil palm plantations. Nearly a quarter of the forest below 100 m disappeared between 1989 and 2000 and if those rates continue, it is estimated that all forest below 200 m will be cleared by 2060 (Shearman et al. 2008). Furthermore, the area is under increasing threat of being logged or degraded as a result of increasing populations (Lamoreux 2001). Extensive oil palm concessions and palm oil mills can be seen within the species' EOO and there is tree cover loss at every collection locality for this species (Global Forest Watch 2021).

There are no records of seed accessions or any ex situ collections for this species. There is one protected area within this species' extent of occurrence known as Pokili; however, none of the data points from collected specimens actually fall within this protected area (UNEP-WCMC and IUCN 2021).
