État de la populationExpert
Though the species is known to have a considerably large extent of occurrence, its population size is still uncertain due to lack of surveys and documentation. Moreover, a continuing population decline is expected due to threats of shifting agriculture, urbanization, commodity driven deforestation, and other forestry-related activities (e.g. hunting, gathering of forest derivatives, etc.) (GFW 2019).

Description complète des menacesExpert
One of the main threats being faced by Heterospathe intermedia is exposure to continuous habitat loss, primarily induced by shifting agriculture, urbanization, and commodity-driven deforestation within its range. This is supported by the 2019 Global Forest Watch Analysis where 264,000 hectares of tree cover were lost from the areas of its occurrence in just 18 years. These forest-covered areas have very suitable topography and climatic regimes which serve as good sites for agricultural sites and urban expansion areas.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
The natural occurrence of the species overlaps in some protected areas (PAs) in the country aids in the conservation of its remaining population as these areas are supported by their respective implementing legislations under the National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 1992 against excessive and unauthorized degradations and utilization. Some of these PAs include Bulusan Volcano Natural Park, Lake Danao Natural Park, and Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary. It was reported also to be cultivated at Makiling Botanical Garden (Fernando et al. 2009).
