Distribution wide population information is not available for this species, though it is described as locally abundant on Samar Island where 304 palm individuals (72 matured, 79 saplings, and 153 seedlings) were recorded (Adorador 2019) within twelve 20 × 20 m nested plots across the two recorded sites. The population is suspected to be in decline due to multiple threats in the range.

The principal threat to this species is mining activity, specifically surface mining for nickel, which is particularly prevalent on Dinagat Island and Surigao del Norte. It is also threatened by illegal timber extraction, fuelwood gathering, typhoons and fires (both wild and human induced) (Adorador 2019).
