The main threat to this species is its restricted distribution and occurrence in few localities along with other species such as Areca costulata and Veitchia merrilli. The species is also threatened at these sites due to logging operations (Johnson 1996).

The natural occurrence of the species in some protected areas (PAs) in the country aids the conservation of remaining individuals as these areas are supported by their respective implementing legislations under the National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 1992 against excessive and unauthorized degradations and utilization. These PAs include Northern Negros Natural Park and Timpoong-Hibok-Hibok Natural monument; while Bacon-Manito and Cuernos de Negros are some of identified Philippine Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs), which are sites of top-priority conservation both for the native species and their habitats.
