This species is one of the common and most widely distributed species of its genus in New Guinea (Petoe and Baker 2019).

From 2001 to 2019, the extent of occurrence (EOO) lost 630 kha of tree cover (equivalent to 2.7% decrease in tree cover since 2000). There were 2,335 GLAD deforestation alerts (a Landsat-based alert system for tree cover loss created by the Global Land Analysis & Discover lab, using a 30-metre resolution) reported in the week of the 8th of February 2021 (which was normal compared to the same week in previous years). There are some small oil palm concessions within the EOO but these are limited in size and number and therefore are unlikely to have much impact upon the species. However, there is a large area for logging concessions near Jayapura. The species has been recorded here and could be impacted as a result (Global Forest Watch 2021).
