État de la populationExpert
There are no population records currently available for Heterospathe cagayanensis. The uncertainty in population size can be addressed by further inventories and documentation. With the continuous effect of shifting agriculture and urbanization proven within the species' range (GFW 2019), there is an expected continuing decline to the population.

Description complète des menacesExpert
Aside from its restricted occurrence and distribution, natural habitat loss is one of the threats being faced by the species where shifting agriculture and urbanization are some of its major contributors. This is supported by the 2019 Global Forest Watch Analysis where over 78,540 hectares of tree cover was lost from the species' native province between 2001 to 2018. Decline is continuing due to high statistics recorded until the past year.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
The species is included in the DAO 2017-11 or the Updated National List of Threatened Species in the Philippines and is assessed as Endangered (DENR 2017). Through this administrative order pursuant to Republic Act no. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001 illegal and excessive tampering of the species from its natural habitats together with other species specified therein are prohibited. Its unauthorized utilization, trade, and disturbances made in its natural habitats are punishable by the law. Aside from this, it was reported to be cultivated at Makiling Botanic Gardens together with various species under Heterospathe, Pinanga, Corypha, Livistona and etc. (Fernando et al. 2009). Its natural occurrence as well in Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park, an officially designated protected area, aids in the population's in situ conservation as this area is also protected by the law against degradation and mandatory conservation is a prerequisite.
