Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
From 2001 to 2019, across the extent of occurrence (EOO) of this species, 34.8 kha of tree cover was lost, equivalent to a 5.6% decrease in tree cover since 2000 (Global Forest Watch 2021). Although some of Papua New Guinea's major population centres, including the capital, Port Moresby, are located in the Southeastern Papuan rain forest, major wilderness areas are still present (Lamoreux 2001). However, there appear to be a couple of oil palm concessions and oil palm mills within the ecoregion that are also within the EOO of this species, causing deforestation that may have an impact upon this species (Global Forest Watch 2021). The main threats to the Trobriand island ecoregion include logging by foreign companies and conversion of habitat into agricultural lands, although more research is needed to determine whether these factors threaten this species (Lamoreux 2001).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
The species' extent of occurrence (EOO) overlaps with Oi Mada Wara protected area, and Managalas protected area lies just outside the documented EOO so it is likely the species is present within the former protected area, and possibly also the latter (UNEP–WCMC and IUCN 2021). There is one recorded ex situ collection of this species (BGCI 2021).
