From 2001 to 2019, the area from which the specimens were collected lost 0.150 ha of tree cover (equivalent to a 0.095% decrease since 2000). As of 2010, 85% of the area was tree cover (Global Forest Watch 2021). The main threats to the ecoregion are logging, conversion of habitat into agricultural lands and gold mining (Lamoreux 2001). Although the species does not appear to be currently under threat from any of these, they could potentially present a threat in the future.

There are no protected areas on Rossel Island where the species occurs (UNEP-WCMC and IUCN 2021). There are also no recordings of ex situ collections of this species (BGCI 2021).
