Malaysia is one of the largest producers of palm oil for which natural habitat is converted (Theo 2002). Some sites seem to have a relatively intact tree cover while others show signs of land conversion. By 2018, over 40 % of the tree cover within the extent of occurrence (EOO) had been lost, in comparison to 2000 (GFW 2019).
