The grasslands or open woodlands where the species occurs are under some pressure or threat from selective clearance, although this does not appear to have materialised for many years. Probably the greatest threat is an increased frequency of fire across the grassland habitat. However, it appears the species has been able to tolerate this and flowers/fruits during the height of the rainy season when fires are not present, perennating in the form of an underground corm during the dry season.
