État de la populationExpert
There is no information available about the size of subpopulations, however, the population is inferred to be declining due to it being targeted for medicinal plant harvesting.

Description complète des menacesExpert
This species is used medicinally by local communities, and with the increase in human population it is being overharvested for its underground corms. There is also extensive habitat degradation taking place due to frequent wildfires being ignited by communities for game hunting or during illegal timber harvesting. Fires are leading to habitat composition changes, in particular, the pioneer species Pteridium aquilinum, becomes over dominant with too frequent fire and outcompetes other indigenous species.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
Although it is endemic to Mulanje Mountain, which is a protected area, this species is still being impacted by harvesting and habitat degradation. Management interventions are required to restrict harvesting. This species is known from ex situ conservation collections (BGCI 2024).

This species was previously assessed as Vulnerable (VU B1+2c; D2) (Msekandiana and Mlangeni 2002).
