État de la populationExpert
The population size and population trend of this species are uncertain. Geostachys maliauensis has been found in two places, both of which are in conservation areas (Maliau Basin and Imbak Canyon). This may suggest that the population is small but stable. There has, however, been tree cover loss in these areas showing that this protection is not completely effective.

Description complète des menacesExpert
Although the status of conservation area should give a level of protection there has been almost 13% tree cover loss within this species extent of occurrence (EOO) by 2016 in comparison to 2000 (GFW 2018). This would suggest that the quality of habitat is under threat.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
This species has been found in two places. Both sites are in conservation areas (Maliau Basin and Imbak Canyon) which should provide some level of protection. Research and monitoring is, however, needed to better understand the conservation needs of this species. Little is e.g. known about the populations of this species, uses and specific threats.
