The size and trend of the population of Geostachys decurvata is uncertain. Lau and Lim (2012) do, however, write that the number of subpopulations is relatively small even if the habitat is relatively undisturbed. This species is only known from one locality even after several attempts have been made trying to find other subpopulations (Lau 2014).

According to Lau & Lim (2012), the habitat of Geostachys decurvata is relatively well conserved. Even though threats specific to this species are not recorded there may be threats to its general habitat. There has, according to Global Forest Watch, been a tree cover loss of over 19% in the Perak district (in 2001-2016 compared to 2000) which would suggest a general decline in habitat quality (GFW 2018). Eco-forest trails can be found in the extent of occurrence which can cause direct harm to the plants or indirectly by causing a decline in habitat quality (Lau 2014).
