The size of the population is unknown. The size of the subpopulation in Belum Forest Reserve is considered to have decreased (Lau and Lim 2012). The population trend of the other subpopulations is, however, unrecorded.

This species is under a level of threat. Forest clearing has been observed around Gerik (Lau 2014) and in Belum Forest Reserve (Lau and Lim 2012). In the latter, this species is also threatened by being trampled by elephants (Lau and Lim 2012).

This species is partly protected by its presence in the Central Forest Spine (CFS) Masterplan recognised valued wildlife corridor (Lau 2014). Geostachys belumensis has been found in protected areas such as Piah Forest Reserve in which individuals may be under a level of protection. Threats have however been detected and research and monitoring is therefore needed of this species to better understand this species conservation needs.
