The population size is unknown, but one of the subspecies (Geocharis fusiformis var. borneensis) is considered common where it is found in Sabah up to 1100 m asl (Lamb et al. 2013). Habitat loss causes a suspected population decline.

Satellite imagery (GFW 2018) suggests that the areas where this species has been found are experiencing loss of natural habitat. A great proportion of these areas have been logged and/or developed, continued development on a small scale is a continuing threat.
