There are no direct threats for the species. It grows in Montane Fynbos and Renosterveld ecoregion; the conservation status of this ecoregion is among the best in South Africa, a legacy of protection aimed at safeguarding mountain catchments for sustainable water production. Due to its inaccessibility and poor agricultural potential there is relatively low human population density and therefore little human impact. One of the major threats to fynbos is the spread of alien plants; but it is not known how this threat may directly affect this species (Cowling 2001).
