There is little information regarding population size and status, but Tison (2009) considers this species as locally common in the mountain peaks of its Iberian distribution. There are 177 records in Anthos (2014) and 50 in Flora-On (2014). In France, this plant is considered very rare, especially the Pyrenees populations, whilst in Corsica there are several records of the plant (Association Tela Botanica 2014). There is no information regarding the Sardinian populations.

There is little information regarding threats to this plant, but considering its habitat preferences, is probable that touristic development in mountain areas and climate changes may represent potential threats, specially in isolated populations.

This plant is legally protected in France (Salinier 2013). In the Catalonia Red List this species was assessed as Data Deficient. Several populations occur within the limits of Natural Parks and Natura 2000 sites, in Portugal (Serra da Estrela, Alvão-Marão, Serra do Gerês), Spain (Sierra de Gredos, Sierra de Guadarrama, Sierra de Leire) and France (Massif du Rotondo). Further research regarding the potential threats and the isolated populations status is advisable.
