In Aceh Province, deforestation rates have been rising significantly since 2004, exacerbated by periods of political and economic uncertainty and high demands for timber following the 2004 tsunami (Purwanto 2016). However, this species has been recorded from Gunung Leuser National Park which protects nearly 8,000 km2 of natural habitats. Much of the montane region from which this species has been recorded in Aceh is highly remote and inaccessible, meaning there is extensive undisturbed potentially suitable habitat remaining, although satellite imagery shows that there has been deforestation in the Mamas Valley, with agricultural land and small plantations bordering the edge of the river (Global Forest Watch 2020). The most recent collection of this species was made in 2007 from Tesso Nilo National Park. Satellite imagery shows that extensive areas of the park have been deforested and the remaining forests within it are now highly fragmented. A lack of enforcement of the parks boundaries has resulted in serious encroachment of the park from illegal oil palm plantations. Between 2002 and 2016, this encroachment decreased the area of the park by 76%, with forest patch size decreasing by 92% (Poor et al. 2019). Considering this species was recorded here in 2007, it is likely it may have been impacted by this habitat loss. Satellite imagery shows that the remaining two localities in West Sumatra province are situated in areas of either full or partial deforestation. Overall, though in certain areas the habitat of this species has declined significantly, due to the extensive habitat remaining, particularly in Aceh province, this species is not thought to have experienced significant declines across its whole population. Furthermore, it is known to grow on roadsides and in secondary forests and therefore appears to be tolerant of some disturbance.
