État de la populationExpert
Population size and trend are unknown, but a strong genetic differentiation and very low gene flow were found among locations (Sun et al. 2011). The density varies from 2 to 35 trees per 100 m2, with almost 50% or more of adult trees. The total number of adult trees was estimated to 427 in several plots located in PR China (Sun et al. 2006). The species is found as isolated individuals (Sun et al. 2004).

Description complète des menacesExpert
This species is threatened by vegetation destruction due to land-use change to agriculture, cuttings for fuelwood as well as communities invasion by alien species inhibiting species regeneration. The habitats this species is found in are severely damaged and subpopulations are facing a high risk of extinction (Sun et al. 2006).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
The species is now part of a conservation plan. Ex situ conservation of 2,000 saplings from seeds at the Kunming Botanic Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Kunming, Yunnan Province, China) were used for a population reinforcement experiment in the Banli village of the Lancang county (247 selected saplings) (Sun et al. 2011). One subpopulation is currently in a protected area (the Canyuan county). A global ex situ conservation plan should be developed, as well as population reinforcement. Subpopulations are not efficiently protected yet should be included in Natural Protected Areas. It is found in two ex situ collections (BGCI 2018).

The species is currently on the Rare and Endangered Species List of China due to both its limited distribution and the destruction of its habitat (Fu 1992; Sun et al. 2004) and it is also China’s second-ranked taxon for priority of national protection (Anon 1999). This species was assessed as Data Deficient in 1998 (World Conservation Monitoring Centre).
