The population size and trend are not known for this species, as no studies have been conducted to examine population trends in the Mesoamerican bee fauna. In a bee data compilation effort, el Colegio de la Frontera Sur (Ecosur) found only 51 specimen records for this species, from 12 discrete localities. This is low compared to other bee species, and is especially low compared to other orchid bees, which are more heavily studied that other taxa. Dressler (1978) commented that this species is common in Mexico but was described later than many other orchid bees as it was not collected until the use of cineol as a bait compound. It is unclear if it is still common, though it is not collected readily. This could be either because inappropriate bait compounds are more commonly used or it has declined and is now rare.

Direct threats to this species are not well understood. However, major threats to bees in Mesoamerica, such as urbanization, deforestation, habitat fragmentation, exotic species, changes in habitat suitability due to climate change, and agricultural intensification resulting in increased use of agrochemicals, may adversely impact this species (Freitas et al. 2009, Vides-Borrel et al. 2019, Martínez-López et al. 2021). From 2008 to 2018, forest cover within the range (minimum convex polygon) of this species declined by 14% (Global Forest Watch 2014). It is thought that Euglossine bees are particularly sensitive to deforestation, because they live under the canopies of trees (Roubik and Hanson 2004). More research is necessary to determine the impacts of these threats on this species.

There are no conservation actions in place for this species, and it is unclear whether it occurs in any protected areas. Research on distribution, population size and trend, habitats and ecology, and threats is needed to better understand the conservation status of this species. 

For the conservation of bee species generally, we recommend the protection and restoration of native flora including primary forests and secondary growth. Recommended measures include changes in agricultural practices such as preservation of nesting sites in the ground, controlled fire management practices, and decreased use of insecticides (Ayala et al. 1996). The encouragement of initiatives for the conservation, creation, and restoration of potential habitats and floral resource sources, such as rural gardens and field margins, is also recommended. This will not only benefit this species, but all pollinators and floral visitors.
