Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
As no major mining or logging operations are in action in the Autonomus Region of Bougainville (AROB) presently, the main threat is the conversion of forest by local landowners to make gardens or harvest building material. Perhaps logging in the future.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
The area around the Balbi volcano where this species was first documented, has no legislative protection (Protected Planet 2020) but it is entirely up to the local community to manage. Large tracts of the island does consist of primary forest and local communities on Bougainville have been nominating areas for future protection under the Bougainville Heritage Act. These reserves have proved successful in protecting primary forest from the threat of logging, and importantly, in the safeguarding of floral and faunal biodiversity (Flannery 2020).
This species is according to BGCI (2020) not grown ex situ but rhizomes from the type locality has been propagated at the Lae Botanic Gardens (where the plant is forming a large and vigorous stand) as well as in Singapore Botanic Gardens.
