It is a widespread species on the islands with more than 3,000 individuals present (M. Sabu pers. comm. 2018). The population is relatively stable with the exception of times of natural disasters as tsunamis.

Since this species grows in three islands and the number of individuals is great there are no immediate threats which would affect the whole population. However, natural calamities like tsunamis and erosion are likely to affect the population in the future.

Since a tsunami may affect the whole population, further ex situ conservation is recommended. It is currently grown in Calicut University (M. Sabu pers. obs. 2018). This species is known from Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve and Galathea National Park in which individuals are under a level of protection from human activities (Protected Planet 2018).
