No quantitative population data are available for this species, which is known only from the type collection (L. Scott s.n.) made in 1887. Therefore, it has not been seen in over 130 years. The current population trend is unknown.

Quelimane is a major port and currently the sixth largest city of Mozambique; the region around the city has been largely transformed since the only collection of this species was made in 1887. However, it was collected from rice fields and rice farming is still practiced within Quelimane District. It is not clear whether the intensification of farming practices has impacted this species, and hence the threats to this species are unknown.
