Most specimens were collected in the 1960s and the last specimens known are from 1967. Since then, none of the previous localities have been reconfirmed.

The most significant threats are associated with habitat degradation as a consequence of increasing human activities, such as the building of houses, farms and plantations. This is especially true near Freetown, where most of specimens were collected. However, there are still well preserved sandy habitats in south-eastern Sierra Leone, where the species might occur.
