Dry deciduous forests have decreased in area since the 1970s by 39% (Moat and Smith 2007). The main threats to dry forests are charcoal production, firewood collection, agricultural clearing and encroachment (Moat and Smith 2007).

Currently there are no specific conservation measures in place and there are no known ex situ collections (BGCI 2016). However Dioscorea bosseri is known to occur in protected areas including Ankarana NP and Daraina, Antsiranana province; Zombitse-Vohibasia NP, Toliara province; and Tsingy de Bemaraha NP, Mahajanga province.
