There are no known threats for the species. The genus Dioscorea (the yams) contains a number of species exploited for economic purposes; these include for nutrition and materials for the pharmaceutical industry (for the production of sex hormones and corticosteroids). Other species are not exploited or are only cultivated locally on a small scale.
