By 2016 3.6% of the tree cover had been lost Sri Lanka in comparison to 2000 (GFW 2018). This may suggest a decline in habitat quality. Satellite imagery (GFW 2018) also suggest a projected decline in extent and quality of habitat within the EOO.

This species has not been recorded by BGCI (2018) to be grown ex situ. Three of the four records are found in or close to more or less protected areas; Sinharaja Forest Reserve, Peak Wilderness Nature Reserve and Knuckles Conservation Forest which should give individuals of the population a level of protection (Protected Planet 2018). Research and monitoring of this species is needed to better understand its conservation needs.
