Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
Habitats where the taxon occurs range from relatively stable and intact due to their sheer inaccessibility to highly converted and critically endangered. General threats to plant species are the deforestation due to conversion of forest lands to extensive cattle grazing and agriculture, the spread of invasive plant species, the use of pesticides, the urban and road development, the overexploitation of natural resources, the alteration of the flood/drought hydrological cycle due to the construction of ponds and dikes. These threats may, however, not directly affect this species, which appears to be a resilient species with good regeneration ability. The taxon is often found in disturbed environments e.g., roadside ditches and appears to tolerate grazing, drought and some pollution. It is a tuberous, clump-forming species which flowers and fruits for a fairly long period (July to October).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
The whole range falls in areas which benefit from international protection e.g., Unesco-Mab Biosphere Reserve, Ramsar, World Heritage convention, Conservation international biodiversity hotspot. Most of the range also benefits from protection at state or national level e.g., State Park, National Park, National Wildlife Refuge, State Ecological Station, Critical Priority Area and National Forest. The number of protected areas and conservation efforts have globally increased in the region. The taxon does not benefit from legal protection. Monitoring populations may be required where there is no information on the abundance of the taxon e.g., Colombia, Honduras, and Paraguay.
