No quantitative population data are available for this species. In the type locality, J.W. Ash (#3401) recorded it as "very abundant, near cultivation just below montane forest". In herbaria, it is known from 13 specimens, collected between 1954 and 1989. The current population trend is unknown.

As this species favours forest margins and can persist in the margins of cultivation as a weed, it is unlikely to be threatened by forest disturbance. It is also stoloniferous so can potentially persist when disturbed. Therefore, any threats to this species are considered to be minimal.
