In Kenya only one population has been found in the Aberdare Forest in eastern Nyeri. In Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo the species occurs in the Ruwenzoris. In Tanzania it has been recorded on Mt. Kilimanjaro.

No major threats have been reported or observed for the species. However, forest destruction and degradation is the major threat to the Aberdare Mountains through agricultural encroachment, grazing of livestock within forest and wildfires.
