This species occurs in Uganda, where it is known only from the type locality in Agoro-Agu Central Forest Reserve. This is an extension of Imatong Mountains in South Sudan into the Northern Region of Uganda (Zhao et al. 2018). The reserve is reported to be experiencing intensive urban encroachment, including agricultural cultivation, felling of trees, and rearing of livestock (Okullo et al. 2021). Overexploitation for various forest products is also reported (Olanya 2020). Conflicts in the area have exacerbated the encroachment, forcing communities to move to higher ground and converting large areas to farmland as the population resettles (NFA 2018, Okullo et al. 2021). Additionally, the boundaries of the reserve are unclear making it difficult to manage, and as a result activities such as wheat and barley agriculture are unregulated (Zake et al. 2016).

There are currently no known ex situ conservation sites for this species (BGCI 2022). The species occurs within the Agoro-Agu Central Forest Reserve (UNEP-WCMC and IUCN 2022).
