État de la populationTexte officiel évaluation IUCNExpert
The Cycas wadei population size is estimated to be about 5,051 mature individuals (Marler and Ferreras 2017). Plants are fairly dispersed, but while the population occurs in a fairly restricted area, there is excellent regeneration (A. Lindström pers. comm. 2018).

Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
This species faces a range of threats (Marler and Ferreras 2017):
1. This cycad species is in demand as an ornamental plant. The seeds and seedlings of the species are also collected and sold as ornamentals in local fairs. Poaching of large specimens occurs fairly often to satisfy demand for landscape specimens on Culion Island and for coastal resorts on nearby islands. Poaching is a minor threat at this time due to the logistical constraints of transporting live plants from the remote habitat.
2. Fire damage. Purposeful setting of fires occurs annually to promote growth of young grass for cattle. This does not severely damage mature trees but can kill seedlings.
3. Habitat conversion. This is currently the greatest threat to Cycas wadei. The habitat is being used for rubber and teak plantations.
