État de la populationExpert
Cycas tanqingii is regarded as locally abundant. Surveys of the subpopulation in China (2019) recorded an estimated 95,500 adult plants (X. Feng pers. comm.) which provides a lower limit for overall population size. No surveys have been conducted in Vietnam so the upper limit for population numbers is unknown. The bulk of the subpopulation in China occurs within a protected area and there is good recruitment with seeds and seedlings present.

Description complète des menacesExpert
The main subpopulation in China is included in a protected area and is regarded as stable so any threat from habitat loss in China appears to have been mitigated. The status of the subpopulations in Vietnam is not known but satellite imagery shows that lowland areas have been extensively cleared for agriculture.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
This species is listed in Appendix II of the CITES Appendices. Cycas tanqingii was assessed as Endangered B1b(iii,v)c(i,ii,iv) in the national Red List for China (Qin et al. 2017). Subpopulations of this species occur in the Huanglian Mountain National Nature Reserve, Yunnan province, China. The status of the subpopulation in the reserve has been assessed as 'good'. The population is protected with certain measures; the number of plants has increased to a certain extent; the number of pests and diseases is mild; and the population is relatively healthy (Xi et al. 2022). The long-term monitoring of subpopulations will support the conservation of this species.
