The population is found in a small extent of occurrence near a highly urbanised area with several threats. It is estimated that there are only 100 plants in the wild.

Several threats affect this species due to its close location to a highly urbanised settlement. Only part of the habitat is protected. Establishment of human settlements, orchards, domestic agri-crop gardens and industrial agricultural plantations cause habitat destruction in areas that are not protected. Collection of firewood and non-timber forest products also threatens the habitat as does collection of plants for local ornamental purposes. There is a low to high vulnerability (depending on exact site) to soil erosion and landslides (Agoo and Madulid 2012).

This species is listed in Appendix II of the CITES Appendices. Ecotourism and reforestation efforts in a section of the species' habitat help conservation of the species and place part of the population in a protected area. An education and awareness programme as well as the long-term monitoring of the population will support the conservation of this species.
