État de la populationExpert
The overall population is large and estimations of several hundred thousand plants have been made. These estimates are based almost exclusively on the large and stable subpopulations occurring in Japan. In contrast, Chen and Stevenson (1999) surmised that, historically, Cycas revoluta also had a wide distribution in Fujian province in China, although it was only sporadically distributed in Fujian by the 1960s. In the Red List of plants for China, Qin et al. (2017) assessed the Chinese population as CR and Zheng et al. (2017) noted that it was uncertain whether any plants still existed in the wild in China. The overall decline in C. revoluta is difficult to assess due to the large subpopulations in Japan compared to the small and now possibly extinct subpopulations in China.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
This species is listed in Appendix II of the CITES Appendices. Subpopulations occur in various protected areas in Japan. An education and awareness programme as well as the long-term monitoring of subpopulations will support the conservation of this species.
