This species is regarded as being locally abundant. Additional large subpopulations have recently been found in the area where the type locality is. In Laos, a number of fairly large subpopulations have been observed. It is estimated that there are over 10,000 mature plants in healthy subpopulations in the wild.

This species has come under pressure from plant collectors and increasing frequency of fires may also pose a problem.
