A large portion of the habitat of Cycas micholitzii has been cleared in Viet Nam. As a result, this species has been severely reduced in numbers both by collecting and by this unrestrained clearing for agricultural and forestry development. The rarity, combined with the unusual habit, makes it a highly sought after plant by collectors.
