If Cycas lacrimans is restricted to this currently known small area, it is in need of urgent protection in situ. Deforestation and other habitat destruction is extreme. A gold, silver, and copper mining exploration permit in San Isidro is pending with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau. Illegal laterite nickel mining operations are reported in the area.

Cycas lacrimans is listed in CITES Appendix II. The species is found within the Mount Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. Long-term monitoring of subpopulations will support the conservation of this species.
