This species is threatened by habitat destruction (small scale farming and logging) and also by removal from the wild because it is a popular landscaping plant .

This species is listed in Appendix II of the CITES Appendices. Plants occur in the Nam Cat Thien National Park and in the Hai Van - Hon Son Tra Marine Protected Area in Viet Nam. In Laos, subpopulations are found in the Hin Nam No National Protected Area. An education and awareness programme as well as the long-term monitoring of subpopulations will support the conservation of this species.
