This species is more widespread than first thought. However, subpopulations in the northern and southwestern parts have suffered from habitat destruction and subpopulations have been reduced but not to extinction. Being a rainforest species, with widely scattered individuals over a large area, the suspected population size is still over 10,000 mature plants.
