État de la populationExpert

The species was not locally common. The type locality has been completely wiped out. In 2005 an additional four subpopulations were found of which none had more than 50 plants, and they were under threat of collecting. In 2008 it was estimated that there were 250-1,000 plants in the wild. In 2010 an additional two subpopulations were found. They consist of over 1,000 mature plants in each subpopulation. These subpopulations since suffered losses over 50-100 plants within just three months. More recently, several additional healthy subpopulations have been found of which three are within a National Park. The subpopulations seem to be stable or increasing with excellent seedling recruitment, but overall the population is still estimated to be in decline.

Description complète des menacesExpert
The population of this species has been substantially reduced by removal of plants from the wild and then sold. Trade is high in this species. Should this practice continue, it would be a significant threat to the continued survival of the species. Many subpopulations continue to decline due to the lack of seedling regeneration as a result of constant seed collecting.
