No quantitative population data are available for this species. It was first discovered on Mt Namuli in 2007, when three collections were made by T. Harris who recorded it as common at one of the localities (Harris 438). The population is inferred to be stable.

This species is not currently considered to be threatened. There is no subsistence farming or livestock grazing occurring at present on the upper slopes and plateaus of Mt Namuli where this species is found. Historically, there were feral / domestic pigs roaming free on the mountain that damaged the upland grassland and seepage habitats and by digging up the thin soils (Timberlake et al. 2009). However, these pigs have since been largely removed as potatoes are now the main crop cultivated on the lower slopes of the mountain and pigs are too damaging to potato farming (Legado pers. comm. 2017). They do not appear to have caused lasting damage to the seepage areas and grasslands. Of potential concern is the increased use of fire on the mountain for use in clearing habitat and to aid hunting; this is mainly happening at lower altitude at present but could expand into the montane grasslands in the future as the local population increases. However, it is not currently considered to be a threat to this species.
