This species grows in rocky areas where there is cattle grazing and fires set to promote the growth of new shoots.

The first priority for this species is to rediscover it. Flowering season (when identifiable) is July and Sept, so surveys should target this period. Research on frequency, threats, regeneration, range, are all needed if this species is to be protected. There are no known conservation actions in place for this species and it is not found in any protected areas. Resources are needed for C. lourensis to seedbank it, include it in an IPA, and to mount an awareness campaign.
